At Sapperton, our intent for art is inspired by our vision to nurture faith; to inspire success. We believe that art is a vital part of every child’s education, fostering creativity, self-expression, and emotional development. Our art curriculum is designed to inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, and create their own works of art, craft, and design. We nurture each child's natural curiosity and imagination through engaging, meaningful lessons that celebrate diverse artists, cultures, and techniques. Through exploring different media and processes, children develop confidence in their creative abilities and a deeper appreciation of visual art in the world around them. We place high value on using our beautiful natural surroundings as both a source of inspiration and a practical resource—whether sketching from nature, creating land art, or exploring natural textures and colours.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will have a secure foundation in artistic vocabulary, a growing awareness of visual elements such as colour, pattern, texture, and composition, and the confidence to reflect on and evaluate their own and others' work. We ensure that pupils not only develop their artistic techniques, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media, but also learn how to think critically about art. Ultimately, we strive to cultivate a lifelong enjoyment of the arts and encourage children to see themselves as artists in their own right, feeling successful with their own creations.
