Maple Class were excited to welcome Mrs Durnford into school to learn about the Mid-Autumn Festival, an important celebration in many East and Southeast Asian communities.
Mrs Durnford talked to the children about how the festival is a special time for families to come together, enjoy food and admire the beautiful full moon. The children enjoyed finding out about some of the traditions associated with the celebration, including colourful lanterns and mooncakes, which are often shared with family and friends.
The children then had the opportunity to get creative. They made their own colourful lanterns and used play dough to make pretend mooncakes. They enjoyed talking about what they had learned and creating their own designs.
It was a lovely opportunity for Maple Class to learn about a different cultural celebration and to appreciate how families and communities celebrate special occasions in different ways.
