Early Years Foundation Stage

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a warm, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child is valued as a unique individual. As a small rural primary school, we make the most of our close community and beautiful natural surroundings to create a rich and engaging curriculum that builds strong foundations for lifelong learning. Our EYFS are a part of Maple Class (EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2), benefitting from the expertise of our committed team: Mrs Trinder, Mrs Wenban, Mrs Sneddon-Wilkins, Mrs Reed and Miss Scrivens. Our new starters also benefit from buddies from Elder Class, who help them settle quickly into life at Sapperton, share the love of reading in Reading Buddy Time and make them feel special and valued from the moment they start their school journey.

All of our children develop a love of learning through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences. We aim to foster children’s curiosity, independence, and resilience, while promoting kindness, respect, and a sense of belonging within our school and wider community. The children have timetabled Forest School weekly, PE taught through trained specific sports coaches and access to the woods that surround the school.

Through carefully planned provision and a balance of adult-led and child-initiated learning, we strive to develop children’s communication, language, physical, and social skills. We prioritise strong early literacy and numeracy foundations, alongside opportunities to explore nature, creativity, and problem-solving in real-life, hands-on contexts.
