This half term, our topic is ‘Once Upon a Time’. We will be exploring traditional fairy tales, focusing on exciting stories about giants and trolls! We will be reading the following stories:

  • - Jack and the Beanstalk
  • - Jim and the Beanstalk
  • - The Three Billy Goats Gruff
  • - The Smartest Giant in Town

The children will have the exciting opportunities to write stories, recording their own plant diaries and send a “thank you” letter to the giant. Additionally, they will become scientists by growing their own magic beans and learning about different types and parts of plants and trees.

During Art lessons, the children will be learning various drawing techniques to complete observational drawings. We will be looking at a range of bridges from around the world and exploring colour in order to create their own bridge painting, using Claude Monet’s artwork for inspiration.

Elsewhere, the children will be learning to sew, using what they have learnt to create patterns on a hessian leaf, looking at the work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and creating original maps.

In P.E this term, we will be learning dance skills linked to winter and our topic ‘Once upon a time’. In music we are focusing on our Charanga music unit called ‘In the groove’ and we will be learning about all different styles of music.

What an exciting half term it is going to be!
