Our first topic of the year is called ‘Me and My Community.’ This topic will give children the opportunity to discuss where they live, the different communities that they belong to and why these are important.

We will be focussing our learning around the following texts:

  • - Martha Maps It Out
  • - Hey Wall!
  • - This is how we do it

The children will have opportunities to write for a variety of purposes. They will write about themselves and their family, write a senses poem, draw and label their own maps and write a recount about our first school trip of the year. We are very excited to be attending the Cheltenham Literature Festival again this year to see the author Nick Sharratt.

In Geography, we will be studying our local area by looking at aerial pictures of the village and identifying physical and human features within it. We will discuss the differences between a village, town and city to gain a deeper understanding of the area we live in.

We will be reflecting upon our lives so far to create a timeline of our important milestones in order to gain an understanding of chronology. We will also be creating a simple version of a family tree.

Within Art, we will be exploring colour. We will learn what the primary colours are and experiment with mixing these to create secondary colours. We will continue to develop our understanding of colour by creating tints and shades that will lead to us creating our own version of Wassily Kandinsky’s artwork, Concentric Circles.

In R.E this term we are looking at “Who do Christians say made the world?” We are also focussing on Harvest in a variety of different ways together.

We are continuing with our Charanga Music this term and in P.E we will be developing our games skills.
